Digital Innovation Hub Slovenia – DIH Slovenia is the central connecting point of Slovenia’s digital transformation ecosystem. It brings together universities, research and business institutions, companies, information technology providers and support organisations, while promoting the development of digital competencies and the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
The Digital Skills and Opportunities project is carried out within the framework of the Slovenian Digital Coalition, a national partnership connecting the public sector, businesses, educational and research institutions, and civil society.
Their shared objective is to strengthen the digital competencies of citizens, employees and professionals, while creating the conditions for a more successful digital transformation of Slovenia.
Digital competencies are becoming one of the key prerequisites for successful participation in modern society and the labour market. The rapid development of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing and other technologies is transforming the way we work and creating an increasing need for new skills and lifelong learning.
There are many opportunities to develop these competencies, but information is often scattered across different institutions, initiatives and European platforms. The goal of the project was therefore to create a central Slovenian digital hub where users could access relevant knowledge, training opportunities, educational resources, events and development opportunities in one place.
The portal needed to address a highly diverse range of user groups — from individuals looking to acquire basic digital skills to employees, companies, educational institutions and digital professionals seeking more advanced content.
At the same time, the project was not conceived as a standalone national portal. Slovenia is part of the European Digital Skills and Jobs initiative, which meant that a close connection with the European information ecosystem also had to be established, enabling efficient content exchange between the national and European platforms.
We developed an entirely new website, Digital Slovenia: Digital Skills and Opportunities, designed as a modern and accessible national hub for the development of digital competencies.
Accessibility and content discovery were placed at the centre of the user experience. A large volume of information is organised into clear thematic sections, allowing users to explore knowledge, training programmes, learning pathways, educational resources, good practices, events and a wide range of opportunities for further development.
Particular attention was paid to the diversity of the digital landscape. Rather than treating digital competencies as a single field, the portal provides access to content covering artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, big data, robotics, cloud computing, 5G, microelectronics, quantum computing, software development and many other technologies.
In addition to knowledge and educational content, the portal also presents concrete opportunities — from national and European calls for proposals and funding opportunities to strategies, initiatives and career pathways.
As a result, the platform functions not merely as an information portal, but as an entry point into the wider digital development ecosystem.
Behind the website, we implemented Craft CMS, enabling editors to flexibly manage a large number of different content types. The architecture was designed to be modular, allowing the portal to evolve and expand both functionally and editorially over the long term.
One of the most important technological elements of the project is its integration with the European Digital Skills and Jobs Platform.
Through API integrations, data is exchanged in both directions: relevant European content can be displayed on the Slovenian portal, while local content and opportunities from Slovenia can be distributed to the European platform.
This means that Digitalna.si is not simply a Slovenian repository of information, but an active part of the wider European digital ecosystem. National content gains greater international visibility, while Slovenian users benefit from easier access to knowledge and opportunities emerging across the European Union.
The new platform has provided the Digital Skills and Opportunities project with a modern digital hub that brings national and European content together in one place and enables users to explore the field of digital competencies far more easily.
Following the launch of the new portal, overall traffic increased by more than 80%, while the number of new users grew by 35%.
Users now view 40% more content, while the proportion of visitors who continue exploring the portal after their initial page visit has increased by 40%.
An important result of the project goes beyond traffic figures alone.
In less than two years, Slovenia contributed more than 400 different pieces of content to the European Digital Skills and Jobs Platform, demonstrating the active role of the Slovenian portal within the wider European digital skills ecosystem.
The two-way API integration is therefore not merely a technical feature, but an essential part of how the platform operates.
It enables Slovenian initiatives, training programmes, good practices and other relevant content to gain visibility at European level, while Slovenian users can access opportunities and knowledge emerging throughout the European Union from a single platform.
Digitalna.si therefore connects the local and European levels, bringing together information, knowledge and concrete opportunities for developing digital competencies — from the first steps into the digital world to advanced technologies and the skills of the future.
With growing traffic, an extensive content base and active exchange with the European platform, Digitalna.si has become an important national gateway to the world of digital skills and opportunities.
