Notranjska Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Slovenia, encompassing Lake Cerknica, Rakov Škocjan, and other natural gems of the Notranjska region. The park is important both in terms of nature conservation and tourism – it is visited by domestic and international tourists, researchers, nature enthusiasts, and school groups.
The public institute managing the park is committed to sustainable development and responsible tourism, seeking a balance between promoting natural heritage and protecting it.
Finding the right balance between visitor expectations and the sensitivity of the natural environment is one of the key challenges of any nature-based destination.
The Notranjska Park sought to develop a modern website and digital tool that would provide visitors with up-to-date information on park capacity and guidance, while offering the park’s team better insight into real-time on-site conditions.
The goal of the redesign was to reduce environmental pressure, improve the user experience, and upgrade the digital identity of the destination.
At Emporij, in collaboration with the Notranjska Park team, we developed a comprehensive digital platform that integrates visitor information, guidance, and artificial intelligence.
At the core of the solution is a Visitor Flow Management System, which monitors key parameters in real time — weather, water levels, traffic and visitation of specific points. Based on this data, the system generates smart recommendations that help visitors choose less burdened routes and experiences, thereby reducing pressure on sensitive areas of the park.
The redesign also included a completely new website, conceived as the central communication hub of the destination. The site offers content on natural features, trails, activities, accommodation, educational projects, and current events, while simultaneously displaying live field data. The design follows modern visual standards and accessibility principles, ensuring an excellent user experience for all visitors.
A multilingual AI chatbot is also part of the platform, providing 24/7 assistance to tourists and drawing information directly from the website and Visitor Flow system. This ensures that visitors always receive accurate and up-to-date information, while the park team gains valuable insight into the most common questions and interests.
With the introduction of the new platform, Notranjska Park has gained an advanced digital tool for the sustainable management of the destination.
The system enables effective monitoring of visitor numbers and environmental conditions, while providing visitors with reliable information and recommendations that encourage responsible exploration.
At the same time, the park strengthens its visibility and contemporary digital presence, supporting its mission: to preserve nature and bring it closer to visitors in a respectful way.
